We just completed our 2nd after school Cooking Class at MAGE where our students prepare delicious, fun menu items that focus on health and nutrition while demonstrating hands-on, basic cooking techniques. Using fresh, local ingredients for items that can be prepared at home as a family and also using a wide assortment of utensils and prep items, we have fun practicing safe and proper chopping, grating, measuring, and rolling techniques.
And having made some healthy foods like Breakfast Bars and Turkey and Black Bean Burritos with Homemade Flour Tortillas, the ‘hit’ of each weekly class is trying a new smoothie recipe where you usually know if they liked it with just one sip. Smoothies are one of those perfect after school drinks that can be packed with healthy ingredients and made at home with the kids themselves, with a little parental guidance.
