MAGE was founded in 1961 by Alice and Harry Wedler, and was the first Montessori School in Dupage County. They were proud to create a classroom in their own historic home in Glen Ellyn (The Machesney House-of Machesney & Miller). They called their school Hansel and Gretel Haus. When Alice passed away, their daughter Ginny Mitchner, also from Glen Ellyn, joined her father in running the school. The preschool thrived near downtown Glen Ellyn. By 1979 the school was for sale. When Annie heard about the sale of the school, she and her father joined forces and purchased the school.

Drawn to the park like setting, they purchased our lovely property in 1997 and moved the school to our present location. By this time, they had a Toddler class and added an Elementary class. Middle School was added in 2016 at the request of families in the elementary program!

Annie states, “The driving force behind the evolution of the school has always been the community of children, parents, and Montessori teachers that I have had the pleasure of working beside.”
